À quoi sert vraiment un blaireau ?

À deux choses que la main ne fait pas. Il monte la crème ou le savon en une mousse dense et chargée d'eau, qui tient sur la peau au lieu de glisser. Et il redresse le poil en le brossant, ce qui permet à la lame de le couper au lieu de le coucher.

Pourquoi cet outil s'appelle-t-il un blaireau ?

Parce que les modèles traditionnels étaient faits avec les poils de cet animal, réputés pour retenir l'eau. Le nom est resté alors que la matière a changé. Le nôtre est en fibres synthétiques, sans aucun poil animal, et retient l'eau tout aussi bien.

Poils naturels ou fibres synthétiques ?

La fibre synthétique sèche plus vite, ne perd pas ses poils et n'a aucune odeur les premières semaines, contrairement au poil animal. Elle est aussi végane. Le seul avantage restant au naturel est une souplesse un peu différente, affaire de préférence et non de performance.

Comment monter une mousse correcte ?

Trempez le blaireau dans l'eau chaude puis essorez-le sans le tordre. Avec un savon, tournez à la surface du pain une trentaine de secondes. Avec une crème, déposez une noix au cœur de la touffe et fouettez dans un bol. Ajoutez l'eau goutte à goutte, jamais d'un coup.

Comment l'entretenir après usage ?

Rincez-le à l'eau claire jusqu'à ce qu'elle ressorte transparente, essorez d'une pression douce, puis laissez-le sécher touffe vers le bas ou à plat, à l'air libre. Ce qui tue un blaireau, c'est l'humidité enfermée dans une trousse, pas l'usage quotidien.

Combien de temps dure un blaireau ?

Plusieurs années avec un rinçage et un séchage corrects, et c'est vrai pour la fibre comme pour le poil. Le signe d'usure n'est pas la perte de quelques fibres au début, qui est normale, mais une touffe qui ne retient plus l'eau et une mousse devenue liquide.
