Aqua, water, water, H2O, source of all life... in short, the fleet ;) Water is present in the vast majority of cosmetic products, and often appears in first position on the INCI list, meaning that it is the major constituent.
Water plays a vital role in your products. First, it allows emulsions to be made. Emulsions are mixtures of water and fatty substances, one dispersed in the other in the form of fine droplets. All creams are emulsions, and it is the process itself that gives them their pleasant texture. Water is also used to make gels, and generally, most liquid or paste forms, with the exception of oils, which are liquid, but do not contain water.
In terms of sensoriality, water brings freshness, and avoids shiny effects on the skin at the end of application, what we tend to call "oily finish". Finally, water is an excellent solvent, and completely harmless to health. Given its high proportion in products, water is treated, and there are several types of water.
